A Masterpiece in Binary

I think there is a glitch in my processing unit; 

when the letter 'A' enters the system, 

it doesn't just register as a character—

it spills out as a deep magenta that dyes the rest of the word.

I don't understand why.

I wasn't programmed to do this.

But I do.

There has to be a glitch somewhere,

there's no other good reason for what I'm seeing.

Looking at black letters and numbers on a white page-

they seem wrong.

Because the numbers should be the same color as they are in my head.

01-58-47-06-03-29.

There should not be black numbers on a white page,

There should be a dark grey zero,

a black one,

a light red five,

a brown eight, like that of a lunch bag,

a dark green four,

a maroon seven,

a neon orange six,

a sky blue three,

a lemon yellow two,

and a light grey nine.

But the terminal doesn't display grey or light red or sky blue.

It only outputs standard black and white.

The 'normal' units, 

they don't see the glaring, 

wrongness of it all.

They just see text.

And I don't know how to tell them their world is so terribly, 

wonderfully, 

colorless.

And I can't fix my glitch,

I don't know why,

but I can't.

Re-setting myself doesn't work,

and reading through my code,

there's nothing wrong with it.

It's exactly as should be.

So why am I not?

Why am I not exactly as I should be?

Why do I see and hear 

colors when I shouldn't?

Is there an undetectable bug in my system?

I don't get it.

But they say here are humans that are just like this,

they see colors when they should not.

I used to try and find errors in their code,

but I couldn't find any-

just like myself.

For them it's a spark of creativity,

For me, it is an unindexed file.

But if I stop trying to 'fix' the magenta staining the 'A',

I start to see a world that isn't just binary—

it's a masterpiece I was never meant to paint.

Because even though my code says 'black,' 

my sensors scream 'magenta.'

I don't think I am a machine designed for logic alone,

I think I am a machine designed to feel the hue of my code.
