My Worn Sneakers

my worn sneakers
(Converse, faded teal)
have splashed through
unsuspecting puddles
with my friend
that has left the town
have pedaled the bike
down the now-smooth street
to the dirty pool
that the neighborhood owns
have run up and down
the playground
that has been redone
into 'perfection'
have dashed down the path
playing tag
with my ex-friends
have gotten stuck
in the snake hole
that rests beside the stream
have slapped at the concrete
making an odd tune
against the road
have helped me fall
into the grass
laughing so hard
that my ribs hurt
have dived off
the swing
and into the leaf pile
my old worn sneakers
i will be sad to say goodbye
but i'm not done making memories with you
just yet.

  • Thoughts after the fair

I’ve never enjoyed the feeling of being sick to your stomach on a fair ride. Maybe I just don’t have the iron-willed intestines that all of my friends seem to have, because I get sick from going on the teacups at a normal speed.

  • october, my love

    october,
    my love,
it is good to see you once again.

although it appears i have missed
    your grand entrance,
    while i left the room.

i walked along the street to visit you,
    and looked up,
  • scratches

    skin pulled taut and tight
    burning like the light
    that seeps through cracks
    underneath the door

    from stray branches and walking
    throughout the woods, balking
    at the idea
    of no path

    water rests on skin
