For old times' sake

I don't know you.

I knew your laugh and the way your eyes crinkled,

I knew that you loved chocolate and hated shrimp,

I knew everything about you,

But I don't know you.

Not anymore.

Maybe,

Here,

Just the two of us,

I could know you again.

Maybe I could relearn your laugh,

And forget the ways you hurt me.

Maybe here nothing has changed.

We're just two friends,

Catching up on the elevator-

For old times sake

The doors open, and you get off

I don't.

Nothing is how it used to be,

But everything is exactly how it was

Ten minutes ago

Before the elevator ever stopped
