At Peace

It was a few days ago,

I was walking

alone

in the cold,

(not lonely, not cold),

and I realized

That I

was at peace

with myself,

with everyone else

with the world.

It was new

fresh

exhilarating.

I listened,

The wind making my face red

Pulling my curls

this way and that.

My boots

crunched into the frozen snow.

I could feel the cold, too.

Not just on my face and fingers,

In me.

It wasn't in a bad way,

though.

Because I was at peace.

I didn't worry about getting home late

get mad at my siblings

or my mom

I didn't think

about school drama,

not in the stressful way.

I was happy.

I was at peace.

  • On being brave

There are days when I fall asleep wondering about the line between stupid and brave.

    Ready to fight

    For their passion

    The trees talk,

They talk and if you listened

    you would know,

    they whisper

    like kindergarteners

who can't stand straight in lines

    but they can jump straight
