Revolve

I was told

to write a slam poem

A sea of words that somehow I can see clearly

But I cannot always speak

I fear the word I scream,

they don't always come out right

It’s like I’m throwing up the darkness of the night,

throwing out my mind, right?

Another down

Bullet to the head

Laid down, not dead,

but not alive

I fear the way they scream,

it’s so messed up that our country

Has gotten so bad that we have to practice

hiding from gunshots

Another thought comes to my mind

like an espresso shot

Because I feel fine

but I know my country’s not

They want to keep children alive

in women’s bodies against their rights

but they don’t want to when they’re outside

if it means guns don't fly

and that’s fine with them?

26 dead at Sandy Hook

Take a look, look through the glass

Although those who passed were not forgotten,

it feels rotten, the fact that even though

we tried to make change

the cycle stays the same

Again! Again! And again!

Look at Uvalde Texas,

think of families wrecked

because they didn’t know that

when they left it would all change!

I fall.

I don't think I know wrong from right

it may be because I

have had to grow up,

we’re adults now, ‘cause that’s what we were told

Our child soul taken away

swapped for an insatiable hole

filled with more and more

Fear and advertisements

YouTube and news segments

A Genocide of children

who were forced to grow up and face

corrupt reality

Because adults become children

they flipped the script

now they’re looking at us to handle all of it,

we’re just kids

We may be tough but

we need guidance because we

are only what we’re made up to be

Based off our praise

and ways of living

If you were taught to give,

you’ll just keep giving

If you were taught to go on,

you’ll just keep swimming

If you were taught to make change,

you just keep living

I am human

That is me

I am who I choose to be

Past the fear and uncertainty,

past the deep depths of the rolling sea

There is light for you and me

and for those children we lost and can’t see,

candlelights will light our streets.

Because we are ready

for change

We are ready,

because how long can we keep waiting?

I think I’m done, I’m out of breath

I hope you understand the rest

Together, we are not alone

Thank you for listening to my slam poem

    It‘s said there’s only

    two things

    certain in our lives

    death

    and

    taxes

How can we be certain of death

until the day we are dead?

How do we know that we’ll die

if we are not dead yet?

  • 11:11

    It’s alright

    It’s fine

    It’s 11:11

    the luckiest minute

    of my life

    So don’t waste it

Hold on for just a minute

    and remind

    yourself you are

    alright

  • Spray-Tanned

Why did you have to hurt us?

    Again?

    Again?

    ‘Cause when I was young

    there was a chance

    a chance

    to be free

a chance to see a woman be

    something new and

    different
