Ariel slept in a park near Mars’s house so she could come back quickly. She didn’t buy anything, hoping Mars could drive her to a mall for some luxury items. She knocked on the door, but a taller, female version of Mars answered. She looked too young to be his mother, so she planned to lie her way through the door.
“Hey, um. Who are you?” Sarah questioned, eyeing her up and down.
“Ariel,” She shifted to one foot. “I’m Mars’s girlfriend.”
Sarah’s eyes widened. “Oh! Come in, come in!!”
She grabbed Ariel’s arm and took her to the kitchen.
“Mom!! Mars has a girlfriend! And she’s here!”
Mars stormed down the stairs.
“What? No I…”
He looked at Ariel and immediately started turning red.
“He doesn’t even tell his friends or family about me, huh?” Ariel remarked through her laughs.
“No, I don’t. Excuse us.”
Mars grabbed Ariel’s free wrist and took her outside.
“Ariel! Are you serious right now?”
“What?” She pouted. “I needed a valid reason to enter! It just came to mind, okay?”
“No, it’s not that,” He shook his head. “Let’s go for a walk, I need to put you up to speed.”
They started walking around the neighborhood. He didn’t talk for a good 3 minutes, and Ariel forgot he was there. She was so mesmerized by the houses she jumped when he spoke again.
“Ariel…I’m not supposed to have a girlfriend.”
“So…you’re going to get in trouble?” She shrank slightly.
“No! No. I can date. It’s just…I’m gay.”
Ariel stared into his eyes for a few seconds.
“Hm. Figures.”
He turned to face her. “‘Figures’? That’s all you have to say?”
“I mean…now that I think about it…it makes sense. You were blushing so hard when I wore your clothes and when I showed up 5 minutes ago so I knew you weren’t straight. I just didn’t know you don’t like girls! Do your parents know your gay?”
“Wow. And no, they don’t. That’s why you’ve kinda given me some extra time to ‘think’.”
“L-O-L, this couldn’t get better.” She pointed finger guns at him. “But does that mean we gotta kiss to make it believable?”
“Uhmm…” His face scrunched up and he put a closed fist up to his mouth.
“Bottom…” Ariel mumbled.
“What was that?”
“Nothing, c’mon!” She made a cheeky expression before grabbing his hand and dragging him back to his house.
“Wh-what? Where are we going?”
“To the mall. You need to buy me some clothes…babe.”
She turned around and began skipping down the sidewalk, hand in hand with Mars.
