Summer

Bubbling water rushing over bare feet
In billowing gulps of rapids and pools
Tickling toes with ripples of magic
Finally escaping school

Afternoon jogs down a little dirt road
Slowing just to pick those pretty flowers
All the time to smile and sit back
Seconds and minutes and hours

Chickadees and warblers tweeting
From plump little trees
Whose green leave quake softly
In the warm morning breeze

Hop and skip through the forest
With a friend and a laugh and a cheer
Happiness is finally in the air
Because summer is here
