sweet

i once knew a girl,

she was sweet and open to everyone about everything,

i was good friends with this girl,

say i knew her more than her parents did,

she had short auburn hair and pretty blue eyes,

she had pale doll-like skin that would get tan in the summer's light,

she was oblivious but curious like a kitten,

she would get laughed at for her "oddness",

but i never knew one person who said,

"i don't like the girl with auburn hair and pretty blue eyes."

i liked her lots too,

so i was sad to see her change the way she did,

she dyed her auburn hair away,

over and over and over,

whenever her roots were to show,

she would dye her hair again.

again and again and again.

instead of flowing picnic dresses,

black hoodies, lace tops, and jeans were in their spot.

the "natural" face girl turned into messy with eyeliner and mascara,

the girl who said,

"you're pretty without makeup!"

to herself in the mirror,

started to mumble under her breath,

"i need more mascara."

to herself in the mirror,

she thought she needed to be pretty to impress people,

but there was one thing about this "pretty" i'm speaking of,

she was her own pretty,

she didn't wear mini skirts or bleach her hair blonde to be "popular",

she was her own pretty.

and i know,

underneath all that dye,

underneath the layers of makeup,

underneath the new and old hoodie,

she was still the sweetest girl ever.

she still was the soft-hearted, auburn hair girl with pretty blue eyes i used to know.

and we'll celebrate her change like its her birthday.

i once knew a girl,

she had dyed hair that would shine in the moonlight,

she had deep blue eyes i could get lost in,

she had the best style in school,

and she was the sweetest girl you'd ever meet,

in the

whole

wide

world.
