it is november now which is unbelievable
because last night we got blisters on our feet running
house to house in too-small rainboots, our wings
flapping lopsidedly behind us. it rained on and off
for two hours and the road looked like a mirror beneath us,
lit only by the ghostly white moon. we were
four insects combined - a bee with plaited hair,
a ladybug with red eyeshadow, a bright pink butterfly,
and a dragonfly clinking with green jewelry. it was windy
and our headband antenna nearly flew away into the night;
we called up to the sky, laughing, please please please
would you rain tomorrow? let us have this night,
let us gather our candy and stop at every house,
trick or treat, we're the bugs!
