The Truth of Being a Girl

Walking home after dark or that short top

Are blamed more then the man who didn’t listen to the woman yelling stop

Appalled?

Well at 10 I was catcalled

I’ve been grabbed

But others have been stabbed

Turned him down?

You’ll be in a hospital gown

I’ve got to get my pepper spray

Before I’m on my way

Heard about the trial on the news

Watched him win and her loose

Even with the video proof

Don’t look cute

Or wear that swim suit

Doesn’t matter if you file a lawsuit

Speak up and get called a liar

Don’t scream about a creepy man, yell, fire

81 cents instead of a dollar

Even if he never graduated college and she’s a scholar

Our bodies our choices

Our bodies hear a voices

4 billion women in the world

All the ladies all the girls

We cross the street

Watch for creeps

Say we have a boyfriend

That discourages other men

Don’t take ubers alone anymore

Make sure there aren’t childlocks on the taxi door

Share your location

Got home safe? Congratulations!

It might seem crazy

But most women experience one of these daily

Might seem wild

Trust me when I say I knew about it as a child

You ask how we’re still here

Still standing strong our voices clear

As a girl

Is this horrible messed up world

It’s because we know what to do

And we know the truth

But do you?
