This is a short story I wrote for English class. I don't have a title yet so I'm open to suggestions on that and on how to improve my story. This is a fictional story about a teenage girl who is obsessed with Harry Potter and somehow gets transported into Hogwarts. Enjoy :)

Rose Carneman was obsessed with Harry Potter. Her room looked more like the Gryffindor common room than the room of an American teenager. Her bedspread was red and gold with a huge lion embroidered across it, the only thing that kept it from being truly authentic was the Bed Bath and Beyond tag peeking out from underneath. On her wall stretched a rectangular banner with a large lion head painted in the center, and along the bottom ran the words “ Go Griffindor!!”,  in the top right corner, there was a golden snitch. On her desk sat a miniature broomstick with its own special stand and of course her wand with its battery-operated tip that lights up with the push of a button. Next to both of these prized possessions sat her laptop, but even this was not normal. Her MacBook Pro was covered with stickers ranging from the Hogwarts crest to a silhouette of the castle itself with the words “ Hogwarts Alumni” printed beneath it ( even though she hadn’t graduated yet).  And as if that wasn’t enough, her screen was open to Pinterest where she liked to spend hours scrolling through pages of depressing Harry Potter memes about Fred’s death. And this was what she was doing at that very moment. She had just come back from school and deposited her bag on the floor, ignoring the piles of unfinished homework that spilled from the open compartments, thrown herself down at her desk, pulled her computer towards her and proceeded to open up her Pinterest account. Perhaps it was the howling wind that promised a thunderstorm, or maybe it was that the house was empty, but something felt different to Rose. Sure she was balling her eyes out over a particularly depressing post about how every mirror George looked into was the mirror of Erised, but still, something felt off. She tried to ignore the urge to flee as the air pressed in on her by scrolling further down the endless page of depressing images and words that just made her cry even harder. As the salt poured down her face she became vaguely aware that the room was spinning. She clung tight to her chair as red and gold streaks blurred her vision. And just as suddenly as it had started, the spinning stopped. Rose sat dazed in her seat for a moment before she tentatively stood and walked to the window to see what was going on, but when she looked out the window, it was not the familiar wooden fence of her backyard that greeted her eyes, but a huge courtyard surrounded by grey brick walls that could only belong to a castle. She jolted and rushed back to her desk to see if there were any hints online, but when she tried to turn on her computer it was out of batteries.  She grabbed her cord from her backpack, which still lay on the floor, and plugged it into her computer, but when she crawled under her desk to plug it into the wall she found no outlet, only stone. Now more than a little shaken, Rose rushed out of her bedroom to see if her parents were home yet and could explain this strange phenomenon, but when she opened her red and gold door she saw a spiral staircase leading downwards and heard laughter floating up from below. She glanced around her and saw another door farther down the stairs that looked almost identical to her’s . Curious and with suspicions of her own, she cautiously descended the stairs. On her way down, she passed six more identical doors all spaced strategically along the staircase. When she reached the bottom, she almost fainted. Before her eyes was a room almost identical to the one she knew so well , there were plush couches and rustic wooden tables, red carpets lined the stone floor, and a large red and gold banner hung above the fireplace with the Griffindor house crest front and center. But the most surprising feature of this room wasn’t the furniture, it was the people. Across the room, Rose could have sworn she saw a flash of red hair, a glint of light off a pair of midnight black round glasses, a strand of puffy hair. A roar of laughter from the couch nearest her made her start. She tore her eyes away from the captivating features of the all too familiar faces and nearly fainted once more when she saw who was sitting in front of her. Two identical figures with red hair.

“F-Fred? George?” she stammered. She could hardly believe her eyes. “ Is that you ?” The twins glanced up at her in confusion.

“ Do we know you ?” they asked in unison.

Rose shook her head, unable to believe who stood in front of her.  “ Y-Y-You’re supposed to be dead” she whispered.

“What ?! Who?! Us?!?”

“ Not you,” she said gesturing to the twins, “ you” pointing to Fred.

“What do you mean?” Fred asked. “ How could I be dead ?”

“ I-I-I don't know you just are.” Rose turned her back on the twins not wanting them to see the tears that ran down her face. She wasn’t even sure why she was crying, she just knew that Fred and George Weasley could not know that she was. Overwhelmed, she staggered into one of the empty chairs near the fire. “How could they be here?” she asked herself. “ But then …. Where am I ?” “ Red and Gold banner ….. Lion …… the Weasley twins….. Someone who looks suspiciously like Harry Potter ….. Harry Potter !” Rose almost jumped with shock at the realization that had just come to her. “ Hogwarts! That’s where I am! I’m in the Gryffindor Common Room! But how ?” “How did I get here?” She remembered her room spinning and her backyard disappearing. “But how….?” Then she remembered that Fred and George were sitting just a few feet away and she got back to wondering. “ How could they both be alive and here at Hogwarts …. Unless... Maybe I went back in time….?” She decided to go ask the twins one more time just to make sure they weren’t pranking her. “ Are you sure you’re not dead?” she asked Fred.

“ How could I be? After all, I’m right in front of you.” He replied with a smile.

And that’s when the room started to spin again.
