Waiting
eating smoothie
out of a jam jar
and PB&J from the cooler.
Waiting
skiing with my sister
on the little snow that's left.
Waiting
grabbing my camera
and chocolate-covered pretzels
and mud boots.
Waiting
sitting with Dad on a bench
playing clapping games
with my sister.
Waiting
talking to everyone else
who's huddled in puffy jackets
or being brave in t-shirts
while we all distractedly glance up
is is here yet?
Waiting
putting on cardboard glasses
and staring up at the sun,
who has never looked prettier,
but also never more un-eclipsey.
Waiting
taking photos,
trying to capture
the crescentness of this fireball.
Waiting
hoping this beautiful thing
called Totality
will never end.
Waiting
for the next
solar eclipse.

Waiting, waiting, waiting... that felt like all we were doing yesterday! This so well captures that feeling of anticipation, and gives us so many of those funny little observations we tend to make and those impatient little actions we tend to take to distract ourselves while we wait for the climax of an event to unfold. I hope your experience was not too cloudy yesterday!
Interesting angle to cut into the eclipse, that’s what makes good poems.
