I search in your gaze
For the secrets in your alluring eyes
Golden brown
Deeper than oceans
Nervousness becomes familiar
As I stand here
Mind racing
Eyes locked
“Promise you’ll never leave.”
I take your hand
Eyes aglow
And then I knew
From the smile on your face
To our countless conversations
You were mine forever.

I am in the eighth grade at a junior high school in Texas. Please, if even for a brief moment, let my voice be heard.
“Why didn’t you ask for help?”
When I didn’t write for weeks
I was asking for help
When I stopped smiling
When I stopped laughing
When happiness became fake
I still hear their words in my head
Constantly reminding me
Of his brutal honesty
“If you wanna starve yourself, go ahead,”
“All my friends say you’re too ugly for me.”
