The Waves and the Sunset

Noah stared out the window of his house at the beautiful beach before him. Gentle waves brushed the shore, dragging sand away when they left. The sky overhead was blue and clear, and the soft scent of saltwater filled the air. The world, as always, was silent.

Noah's watch buzzed, and he looked at it. Someone was ringing the doorbell. Leaving the living room, he crossed to the front door and opened it.

Hi. Sun signed in ASL when she spoke to Noah, so he could understand. Care to join me for a walk on the beach?

Absolutely, Noah responded, smiling.

Taking Sun's outstretched hand, Noah stepped outside and closed his front door, letting Sun lead him across the beach.

The waves seemed small and almost playful as the couple laughed and swam and chased each other all across the beach, then sat to watch the sun set on the horizon.

    Some days

    It’s hard to find

    A reason

    To get out of bed

    The depression claws

    At me

    Begging me

    To just stay there

    Sink into the darkness

    And disappear

    But I don’t want to

    Do that

  • My Best Friend

    As I stood there

    Crying in the rain

    I stopped and stared

    At the sunset before me

    My tears fell faster

    As I remembered

    The feel of his arms

    Around me

    And thought of how

    Distant he’s been

I’m sick and tired of all this shit and pretending

I don’t know how I’m supposed to survive like this
