A Wishful Conversation:

He said he still believes in God.

and I asked, “What for, after all God has taken from us?”
and he said, “I am lucky to even have anything at all.”
I said, “I would want the ignorance of not having anything rather than be stripped of what I was given.”
he said, “But that is why this moment is a present. To experience this is a gift.”
I said, “But this will one day be gone; one day, this will be nothing but an unwritten word.”

he said, “We do not have to be biblical to be happy; we just have to be happy.”
I asked, “How can you be happy when you know this will someday be nothing.”
he said, “This will never be nothing. Even if it is lost, I am glad it happened at all.”
I said, “It is easier to be cynical than to be let down.”
he asked me, “Are you let down by this now, or are you just preparing?”

I said, “No, you have not let me down, but inevitably He will. We are still young.”
he says, “It is not a crime to be young and in love.”
I said, “You are right, but I will be punished for loving you until I die.”
he said, “And yet to love God is not to be punished; it is to be honest. So be honest.”

I said with latent honesty, “I wish you loved me more than God.”
he asked, “How can I love you more than Something that will always forgive me?”

I say, “I wish He gave you a chance to try.”
