Poetry from the Pleistocene

Across the north country, the megafauna roam free
They’ve done so for centuries
A bull elk carrying a six foot rack
In his wake, a cloven hoof track
An aging mastodon roams by
As the birds soar high

These animals have no care in the world
For they do not know
Mankind will herald
