The Princess and Her Tomboy Chapter 2

Chapter 2

“VIOLET, YOU ANNOYING LITTLE ROACH!” Hoo-boy, she’s angry. “GET YOUR LAZY BUTT DOWN HERE NOW.”

What an amazing way to start up today at 3:oo-am. With my ‘mother’ aka ’monster’, waking me up this early because I ‘left the candle burning’ or something like that.

“COMING!” I shout as I shove myself into my to-tight dress. Please let this be the day I can finally escape from this prison of a household. I rush down the attic stairs, which creak loudly from my stomping feet.

Hurry.

“VIOLET”

Almost there.

As soon as my first socked foot hits the first floor she's on me.

“WHERE ON EARTH HAVE YOU BEEN???”

“I was going as fast as I could Ma’am,” I say, holding back tears.

Her voice actually softens for once, “Next time when I call you, please be faster. This headache is absolutely dreadful.”

Good for you. “What do you want me to do?”

“Make some soup from the dried vegetables.”

“I don’t know how,” She’s going to shout.

“FIGURE IT OUT USELESS CHILD.”

That is the last straw, I am so tired of being called an ‘useless child’. “Take care of yourself for once.” I shout over my shoulder as I run upstairs for my already packed bag.

Slinging my small pack over my shoulder, I head for the window. Putting down the makeshift ladder I made for this purpose. I step out the window, and slowly make my way down the shaking ladder.

The sun is just beginning to rise as I make my way toward the palace gates, hoping I’m on time, or even early.

“Wake up already,” I mumble to myself as I chuck rocks at Honey’s window.

“CHILD, STOP THROWING ROCKS!!!”

“Sorry ma’am, I’m Honey’s friend, Violet. I’ve been awake for over three and a half hours.” After a moment, the gates start to open. “Bless you!” I shout as I run through the gates.

The smell of the palace garden hits me hard as I run for the secret tunnel that Honey and I used last summer to get into the castle. Which just so happens to be hidden in a bush.

Please be open.

PLEASE be op-

The knob clicks as my fingers turn the handle. Pushing the trap door open, my feet find the edge of the hole, ready to jump.

*CREAK*

That wasn’t the trap door…

“HEY YOU THERE! WATCH-YA DOIN’??” The gardener shouts as I jump into the hole praying that Irna (the sun queen) won’t let me die.

My eyelids flutter, trying to adjust to the light.

“Hey Missy, whatch you doing down here?”

My hesitant voice answers. “I’m trying to see the Princess, I’m her friend.”

“The princess’s room is two staircases up and to the left.” That’s all I hear before I turn around and dash up the stairs. As I step foot into the main hallway, a voice startles me.

“Violet, please tell Honey to hurry up.”

“Y-yes your majesty.”
