Young love

I remember that warm summer night,

we argued about who could jump farther off the swings,

we were only 14.

It down poured,

they didn't set the fireworks off,

you didn't care,

neither did I.

You were happy with the glow stick I gave you,

you kept it for weeks,

for all I know you still have it,

probably not,

but I like to think maybe you keep it to remember that night like I do,

wishful thinking,

you used to say that a lot when you would talk about us.

I was only sad that we had to leave early,

we played basketball that night before the rain,

you'd never played before,

but you made a three pointer,

of course you bragged,

I didn't mind,

I thought it was cute.

My friend asked if we were together,

I said no,

like the idea was crazy,

I loved you.

4 days later we were together,

not for long you left 2 months after that,

my heart didn't though,

it's been years,

but I am still yours,

and I think,

in a way,

I always will be,

because 3 years later and I still love you.
