I tiredly stumbled down the hallway.
Gently swinging the bedroom door open.
I peer down over the paint-chipped baby blue crib.
I look into the the soft face of my son.
He opens his eyes.
This isn’t my son.
Where has he gone!
The little boy who has replaced him is identical…
No, something is missing, the sparkles in his eyes are gone.
This baby looks at me as if I’m a stranger.
Wide eyes curiously taking in the features on my face.
I will raise him knowing he is not my own.
Telling everyone he is not mine.
Achingly wishing someone would believe me.
No one hears, no one listens.
He is not my son, He was replaced.
I open my eyes.
