fading freedom

Protest after protest,

chant after chant.

I watch and listen

as people continuously fight for their rights.

But the fighting should’ve been over

on July 4th, 1776

when it was declared that

all men are equal.

Everyone is fighting for the equality

of all people

except for the government.

I find it strange

and heartbreaking

that what once was “everyone”

has now become “one percent”.

Equality now comes with standards

very few can reach.

What happened to “all men are created equal”?

What happened to “land of the free”?

What happened to our country?

    Sometimes words fall out senselessly,

    But because they want to,

    not necessarily because

    they want to be revealed.

    do not.
