Who and Why?

Who are you, and why are you here?

This challenge comes from YWP Alumni Advisor Isabella Daignault-Bailey who based it on an essay prompt from a college class. "It's a great prompt to ask, who are you, without the words 'I am'?" Isabella said. "I remember really enjoying it because of its open-ended nature."

    Who am I?

Who are you, you ask? Why, that's an incredibly good question. I don't know. I ask myself that every day, and I still don't know who I am. I don't know who I want to be, or what I want to do when I grow up.

  • to want to be

    i don't know who i am

nor do i think i ever will

    but

i want to be so much.

i want to be a poet,

    carefully nurturing

    then raising and sharing,

    the sustenance of the soul.

    Oh, no, I’m not here

    For a reason.

    It’s an almost comforting thing

The fleck of light of a chance

    The infinite things

    That had to go right.
