Weave

Deadline

You are weaving a beautiful fabric to make into a garment for yourself. Your loom can weave with any substance you wish: the roar of a river, the fog of London, a sunbeam. What would you include in your fabric, and why? What strength or symbolism would these materials hold for you? Submissions

  • Sinews

The sinews from my strewn out muscles lay the skeleton of my blanket,

    remind me of my strength,

    its fortitude when not forsaken.

  • Sew Me A Quilt?

I want your freckled cheeks and blond eyelashes

and I want your flying hair

and I want your careful words that start tumbling fast,

    woven together,

    please

so I can wrap myself up

    and remind myself of happy.

  • Memories and solid things

If I could weave the memories of you in a giant blanket

    The night sky would appear

Or maybe the streets of that one city in Central America

The unspoken words caught in a language barrier

  • Woven

Woven from feelings of happiness and friendship, short-lived as those feelings may be.

Woven from a cat’s meow and a dog’s tail wag.

Woven from ideals of love and compassion.

    Woven from goodness itself.

  • My scarf

My scarf wrapped around my neck

    Keeping out the cold bite

In it I feel the softness of a first kiss

The warmth of a summer night

The comfort of a mother's love

    And birds singing above me
