Yes, I am A Girl

Based on recent events and my best friend, whose words "speak the truth of women in history"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Men, males, boys, perverts, and every person in between,

I am not your toy
I am not your circus show
I am not for you to use
I am not for you to just look at
I am not a joke
I am not perfect
I do have feelings
No, men did not invent everything in this world
No, I am not dressed up for you
Yes, I can pick up that "heavy" package
Yes, I am emotionally stable and you have no right to say I'm not
Yes, I do have a brain that can be better than your's
Yes, I do have an opinion that I want to express
Yes, I am very sick and tired, and no I am not letting that stop me
Yes, I do belch, fart, sweat, and do normal human things
Yes, I do care about sports
Yes, women do have rights
Yes, I am a feminist
Yes, I am a girl

From,
The girls, women, females, and people who are worth it

Feminism

Dear Boy,

That day on the stairwell
How did you feel?
Calling me dumb
Stupid
Insecure.
A female
Who lives
Only
To please
Men?
That day on the soccer field
"You throw like
A girl!"
Those painful words that strike embarrassment
In a boy's
Heart?
I am a girl.
I am not
Just something

From one feminist to another: Well done. Thank you for being brave.

I love this! It's EXACTLY how I feel. Maybe you should write a poem about how boys feel about feminism. I wish we were all as brave as you are.

In exactly what way do you mean "how boys feel about feminism"? I really want to write more about such topics, so any suggestions are great! Thanks for the kind comment!

As a man, male, non-pervert with two daughters and a feminist wife I am proud to say that this piece made me stand up and shout.

Thank you. Well done. Not a think I could suggest to make this better.

Thank you, and in no way I am ever trying to say that all men are bad. I'm glad you understood where I was trying to come from.

To reassure, I totally understood that. Thanks for giving me a heads up on your piece. You will notice that I made it a Daily Read AND put it out front AND pushed it on social media.

Thank you so much for voicing this. For so many women, recently we feel like this is how we are seen. Thank you for being brave, and standing up for all us women.

This piece is very inspiring to girls everywhere. As we move forward into the next few years, things may change for women. I enjoyed the writing very much and it is very inspirational.

I just want to say to everyone who has read, commented, loved, or anything of that matter for on this, you don't even know how much this means to me! I would never have thought that this piece, in which I got the idea of while walking my dog on a boring old morning, would be so loved. Thank you so much for being so awesome and supportive. Keep being brave and standing for what you believe in.

    :)

Atnedojumper - AMAZING response to this piece. I am floored. THANK YOU for writing and posting it, THANK YOU for signing up to present it on December 9th and THANK YOU for giving your commenters and readers some appreciation in return. All wonderful stuff. You rock. I just wanted to drop a comment on this with the aim of helping you prep it for presentation on December 9th - I have only a few suggestions. 1: I would change the word "thing" to "person" in the first line and I would change the words "things that" to "people who" in the last line. 2: Could you post a recording of your piece? Simply EDIT your post, click ADD MEDIA and then click BROWSE under the "Audio" tab. A "Media Browser" window will pop up with a RECORDER tab in the top right hand corner. It should be clear what to do from there. The purpose of the recording is to get practice actually saying the piece. Do a bunch of run-throughs before recording - it takes a few to get comfortable with the words! If you notice that you are stumbling in any of the spots, think about whether you need to change a word or add or subtract a syllable. Can't wait to hear you perform it on Dec. 9th! I'll check back before the event to listen to your recording and share any additional thoughts that might help with the delivery!

So sorry for the WAY overdue reply, but after quite a bit if trying I have unfortunately found out that my computer won't load the audio recording, nor does the audio have very good quality. But on the bright side, as you can see, I took your suggestions into consideration and have gone over my piece a few times to get used to the words.

    :)
