More Than Just Us

In order to live, the human body needs three things:

Food, water, and air.

In order to thrive, the human body needs just a few things:

Shelter, love, and care.

We rely on these things to live a full, enriched life.

As centuries have gone by we’ve forgotten this.

We’ve become greedy, taking and taking from the Earth.

The Earth, who has given us the acres and acres of trees,

filling our grateful lungs with their breeze.

Who has given us the oceans, rivers, and seas,

Water protects our organs with such ease.

Who has given us the land that grows our seeds,

Giving us food and herbs that give us our teas.

Who has given us fire that warms winter’s freeze.

Creating a home as warm as a hearth.

We have seen the wonders of nature in front of our very eyes,

Watching as the seasons change, even in the skies.

Watching as the high tides start to roll in,

Watching as the wintry night sky is painted with colors that spin.

Watching as the animals migrate for the winter.

Watching as the sun and moon cause the sky’s splinter.

With all nature’s beauty, it seemingly was never enough.

As our love for the Earth has become rough,

With sharp edges cutting against our compassion for it.

In return for all its beauty, we’ve become hypocrites.

Destroying our beautiful home that’s given so much.

The plants and animals once did not need our crutch,

Now because of our actions they must.

As their home is starting to rust.

When will you see?

That our actions have consequences on more than just us.
