I’m afraid of the dark
And the art
I haven’t made
The places not stayed
And the overstayed welcomes I
Know not to inhale the stratosphere keep
Both feet on the ground
And look straight ahead
But sometimes before I sleep
I close my conscience instead
And my body will shake as I
Reach for ambition and things not yet achieved
My heart starts to race as I search for reprieve you see
I hear the clock ticking as I run out of time and life is so short that I
know I should climb
Up the ladder keep going 'til I reach my potential but sometimes
I feel so arid that the doubts are torrential
And I hold myself up to the light like a swatch
Contrasting the pigments until I look botched
Everyone else seems to know what the hell they are doing
the path they are on and the words they are spewing
but maybe the point isn’t to know straight away
have all the answers and reach tomorrow today you see
the thing about life is that we're all just existing
Some people masters and some just beginning
All of us stumbling blindly ahead
for passion and promise and beauty instead
Of the hardships that come and the people that go
And the knowledge only of what we don’t know
But in this small moment confused and alone
Hopelessly hopeful of life so unknown
Is the time that we have to find our own light
Prick our fingers with ignorance until we grasp something alright
And when you find it you take it and run far away
Because only then will you look up and find
it is day

Omg I love this poem so much! All the rhymes are so flawless and really add such an amazing rhythmic quality to your poem. "And I hold myself up to the light like a swatch / Contrasting the pigments until I look botched" Utterly amazing! Your descriptions and your narrative are so nicely woven together, I also love the message of the poem and where it all ends. Great work! :)
Thank you so much!
