Banning people under 16 years old from using social media in Australia is a reasonable move, especially because so many minors are targeted by predators online.
Social media has a much bigger influence on people’s lives than we often realize. Many users especially teens have become insecure, depressed, or anxious due to harmful content and unrealistic standards. Bullying and harassment happen constantly, regardless of age.
Even if people under 16 are banned, many will still try to access social media by using their parents’ identities or lying about their age. However, stronger verification methods could help prevent this. Another concern is the widespread sexualization of people online, many of whom are still minors.
A ban like this would have a major impact on young people and the way they think. Teens might actually be happier, since they would spend more time interacting with nature, friends, and real-life activities instead of being consumed by online pressure.
I believe the U.S. and even the rest of the world should consider similar laws. Many children are losing their childhoods too early. They're being exposed to things they shouldn’t see, gaining knowledge they’re not ready for, and their innocence is being taken away far too quickly.
This issue doesn’t just affect young minds now it could shape the future. While social media can be helpful for things like homework or learning new skills, many people use it for harmful purposes.

I feel like it's not all harmful, and companies should be doing more work to filter the content for people under 16, instead of the government coming and banning it altogether. I think that it's more important for social media companies to stop online predators, instead of banning use for the people who were not the problem. I think that there should also be more opportunities for teens to just exist in the outside world and be themselves. In a lot of places there's nowhere for teens to go,
cont- which is a bigger cause of loneliness than social media itself, and the ban is also not working too well, in an interview, a lot of kids said that they didn't even get banned. Also, some social media is helpful to learn, and connect with other people, so I think that the companies should be doing more work to filter things kids can see, and society should just generally accept teens more.
I wish i could like this comment, but i agree, I also think teens should have their own social media where the age is limited and once u turn 18 it gets deleted🙂
