When I grow up,
I want my own house.
Not to big, not to small,
But enough for me and a roommate.
When I grow up,
I’ll have my own schedule
One that's not determined by others around me,
One that is my own, with how I work.
When I grow up,
I’ll have my own pets,
Differently a cat or two,
Maybe a dog too,
And hopefully a milksnake
When I grow up,
I want to be a writer.
I want people to hear my thoughts,
My own worlds made outside of the social norms
My own characters that others can relate too,
Just like how I could for the books I've read.
But when I grow up?
I will realize that half of this isn't possible.
I will not have a house,
I will have a small apartment,
Sharing a room with 4 others just to cover rent.
My schedule will not be made by me,
But by my workplace and my income.
I will not have space for pets,
Maybe only a cat or a snake depending on who I live with.
And finally, I will not be a successful writer,
People are not only losing interest in writing,
But most can't even read at all.
So when I grow up,
I will have to deal with what I have,
And be happy I can even have a roof over my head.

This is really good - it shows the huge difference between what you hope and want, and what reality will throw with you.
This is a realistic poem, sad, but realistic. It is really heartbreaking to see so many kids, and adults who do not know how to read and write. I’m glad this site and others like it exist, so the people who do like writing can share their talent.
Also - welcome to YWP! And, is your username Warrior cats? If so, I like the name (Ravepaw’s a great character). :3
