The Little Light

The spark started small

In a 17 year old student,

who made friends with the artist.

She let it grow in her heart,

and then passed it on

by showing kindness to the outsider

These three held the flame,

the student, the artist, and the outsider

growing it with gentle breaths,

sharing the light with all

until a young girl came,

scared of the light,

terrified it would burn her,

but the fire fascinated her

so she came alone

out of the comfort of the dark

and stood

feet away from the inevitable death she feared

and then one at a time they turned around

the student, the artist, and finally the outsider

the student smiled and told the young girl she was loved

the artist laughed and told her she was wanted

and the outsider, while still sacred himself, told her she was good enough

and that's all she needed

to take the fire and dance around the world

  • I don't know

Words used to flow easily out of my fingertips,

    my pencil effortlessly connected constellations,

as a stream of simple thoughts transferred perfectly onto a page,

but now my mind is mush,

  • Stars

    A girl stood alone

on the edge of the world,

    scared to fall,

but somehow she could not leave

    Her heart pounding,

    Her chest screaming,

  • Cookies to Constellations

I miss when everything used to be simple

    when everyone got a cookie

and we didn't have to worry

about if there was one less

    But I did,

because what if another guest came to the tea party?
