This may seem like a silly question, but to you, is there a difference in the writing style of poems and lyrics? Or are they the same? To me, they feel extremely different, but also similar in a way?

Not silly at all! I think there is a difference, but it can also be very similar. I think some songs have lyrics that aren't poet lines but their repeated in a cool way. Other lyrics I think can be read as spoken word and have the same effect. Same goes for rap I think its interesting to see how rap and spoken word poetry are different and also similar
Ooh, I didn’t even think of comparing rap to spoken word poetry! They are different and similar!
This is just a random factoid... I don't really write lyrics, so I'm not a great person to awnser this question... but in the classical world, the words for poem and song were often the same, and most poetry was sung or at least chanted! So the connection between the two goes back a long way... though think it's a lot more difficult to put free verse to music.
