A Day in the Life of a Queen

My kingdom sparkles with glittering blades of grass, the dew wet but not too soggy.
Huts and cottages are visible from all directions;
From my balcony, I can see all.
But I didn't ask
For this role
As queen of the Jewel Shores.
I didn't want it
And pushed it away
So I wouldn't have to face my responsibility.
Well maybe
I'm a better queen now
But how should I know?
I'm not my subjects
And they might be doubting
How a timid princess
Had risen to queen of their homes.
You're probably thinking
That I'm crazy.
Who wouldn't want to be royalty?
But the truth is that
It's not fun at all.
So when I could be lounging
By the lake
With wind whistling through my hair,
I'm stuck
In this prison of a palace
Doing queen stuff I'll never understand.
A villager approaches me. "My queen, my chickens ran away!"
Ooh, now some adventure.
But I must remember
To use my queen voice
My poker face
And to show no emotion at all.
After all,
I'm supposed to love being a ruler
Be happy living in a castle with unlimited resources
And anything at my fingertips.
But I don't like
That feeling
Because I want to be equal to my subjects,
Not high above them.
"What do they look like?" I question, hoping I'll be the one to give chase to this man's runaway farm animals.
"Brown and spotted, like a moth, with white necks and beady eyes." He sighs and bows. "Your Majesty, permission to ask your servants to help?"
"Actually, I'll do it myself." It's about time
I got out of this place
And glided across my kingdom.
Jewel Shores
Is meant to be a paradise
So why shouldn't everyone think of it that way
Even me, the queen?
"But, Your Majesty!" he exclaims, looking shocked. "No! Send for a manager, perhaps?"
Then he looks guilty
And I feel bad
But only for an instant
Then my green eyes
Ignite like a flame
Because no one is stopping me from escaping.

    Long day

past where morning sun shines and into the dark huskiness of night

    fluorescent lights beating down

    then flickering off

    a fanfare

    a reflection

    a redemption

  • Instincts

    Some things are just instinct

like when I just ran to you

as soon as I saw you

    and hugged you for -

    oh yeah -

    the first time

    very very platonic of course

    you're my big brother.

  • Flying solo

Your solo is like sun shining through the clouds in my heart

    it's like a platonic ballad

    it's like you are playing

    through first loves

    and forbidden loves

    and grass in the summer

    and crunchy chips
