The Dreams of This Evening

What will you do with your one wild and precious life?

There was June snow

All day today,

Whispering through the air

By the soft breath of the breeze,

All the scattered wishes

The world has asked of poplars

And dandelions;

I blew bubbles this morning,

For the first time in ages

With two of my friends,

And we tried to hold the little worlds

They created:

Perfect worlds

But ones not quite as lovely as this one

With its water that shimmers

Into glassy puddles of light,

And roses so beautiful

And so marvelously strong,

And its dreams and its dreamers

Wandering through the golden haze

Of the evening,

With the single intention

Of whispering the secret of the world:

That our lives are wishes we can shatter

Into the million rays and heartbeats

Of the universe.

So what will I do with my one wild and precious life?

I will love it,

And if it shatters my heart,

I will love it even more.
