The Eclipse

Melts the sun
With her ferocity– stripped away,
Turned into fragility,

We gasp as moon swallows sun.

Stolen beyond horizons,
Light looks back– until all that’s left is wandering dusk,
Lost on the edge of nightfall.

It is now we wonder– what belonged to us as much as light?
Withdrew, freezing what remains with intent,
Like a bow shrouded in snow–

Until awoken by a raven caw,
last of winter slips,
Shining in the light of a returning sun.

Posted in response to the challenge Eclipse.

She wrote until her fingers carved groves in the silence and spoiled the blankness before. Then, she turned to each surface left unwrote and sang. The birch trees wept as she tore back the bark to reveal stories beneath.

  • Echoes of You

I await you in the open grass–

The rolling plains roam my mind

    Dark-swept winds ride the horizon–

Damp with the promises you left unanswered
