Why I Miss Summer

Silence spreads.

It blankets churning mouths like grazing cows come frost.

Never has the silence echoed so.

Dew freezes and I’m brought back to the before

When grasses tugged at the little girls who wove a path through streaming summer winds.

I could always tell when summer had broken through this quieted icy earth when the grasses became waves in a jade sea, startled by each other’s speaking.
