Für The Tree

I used to adore that pear tree
Until I discovered,
It was just plaster covered in plastic sheets
So I saw a massive eucalyptus, in a copse of green brush
It was a colossus towering over a town of life
But the sign said: “Invasive!"
So I went to northern Montana
And found a forest of birch
But when I looked a little closer
They all were etched in life regrets
I finally found a perfect tree
A douglas-fir
But who could bear to leave the tree unprotected!
So I built a wooden fence
5 yards from the roots
The county park didn’t seem to mind
But the hikers started complaining
So I turned the fence to glass
They wanted to get closer though
To look straight up and see the canopy
And it was then that I realized
All the tree needed
Was for people to feel its shade

  • Apathy

    Apathy, never hatred
I, myself was born with apathy
Deaf to the conflict that surrounded me
Although it had eaten at everything I saw.

But as I touched the hands and hearts of my family
    I had forgotten apathy
  • The Dreamer's Wheel

Humanity has cried for it to stop
Yet no spear or sword could halt the mop
That clears away color and good faith
But does not care to dismantle hate

Time is not a perfect circle
But rather a square or line at best
