My funny little friend

appearing at my door

day in and day out

to say hello to me.

So intelligent

yet so stupid

chasing after fallen leaves and blades of grass

laying on the doormat

Happy birthday

or more like happy belated birthday -

I'm a day late -

but still

you're fourteen now

same as you were a week ago

but older

You'll be driving in what, two years?

we're so old

I am a notebook

spiral bound

spinning down the length of the paper

twisting

turning

twirling

until I hit the bottom

and then I spin back up

the lines passing by quicker and quicker each time
