Lonely After Death

I await you in the open grass.

The rolling plains roam my mind.

Dark-swept winds claw the horizon,

Damp with the promises you left unanswered.

The goals you left behind you,

In the aftermath of an inferno.

How is it,

You could leave me;

Trace your way up,

Into the universe.

To where so many have been awaiting -- for you

In the busied life

Of death.

In parallel plains where you now lie asleep in the sunflowers,

Waiting -- for me.

The only remnants that lie here -- the chiseled name,

Almost gone in the swaying winds.

And last beaded breath -- threading along,

With the life that covers your grave.

She wrote until her fingers carved groves in the silence and spoiled the blankness before. Then, she turned to each surface left unwrote and sang. The birch trees wept as she tore back the bark to reveal stories beneath.
