Music

Growing up, music was always a constant.

Then, it meant very little to me.

It was only background noise, but always there.

As I grew older, the meaning of music changed.

It was there when I felt despondent,

When I was with friends, our laughter: a melody,

When I was with my family on a road trip.

I, then, started noticing its importance.

Throughout the years, music sunk its teeth into my heart.

Playing a major role in my life.

The lyrics would comfort me when I’d fall apart.

When I’d write poems in the dead of night,

When I’d sit out on my deck, underneath the starlight.

Music has always been a part of me.

Now, though, I pay closer attention to the lyrics.

The writing as beautiful as the rising tide,

Forever capturing my attention, even when going on a ride.

Music will always be my constant,

With me in every instant.

Mother Earth holds us all in her arms,

She’s gifted us the oceans and lakes,

    the mountains and hills,
