Out-of-season strawberries

I thought this would be a

typical

miserable

boring

trip

with the exception of the refuge sought out in my computer

turns out

it would not be

I would encounter my best friend at two rest stops

and end up within half an hour of separation in Philly

the amazing coincidences

departing and even leaving on the same day

will continue to amaze me

as I sit in uncomfortable rental van seats

listening to my family play the passenger seat-backseat version of Uno

eating out-of-season strawberries

watching as a teeny car from Japan drives by

with a highly decorated SUV drives in front of it

probably to make sure that it doesn't get crushed

I'm not sure

but this has been a lot more fun than I had expected

driving in a rental minivan to Philadelphia with my best friend somewhere behind me

you can always know that you'll never know what will happen on school breaks

that's for sure

as I eat gross strawberries

on my way to Philly.

at the calico cat slinking across the forest floor, a view of the situation from the ground among the trees and undergrowth

  • Get up

I'm watching you lie there, dejected, miserable at your idea of a failure. But it's not a failure if you got impressively high up on the leaderboard, if you got so close to winning but didn't.

  • Promise

I stopped here. I ceased my walking and stood here, for as long as I needed to be until they came. I wait for them. They haven't come yet.
