The rain

The rain scares me

intimidates me

loud and imposing and looming

often arriving with thunder

lightning

sometimes power outages

The rain comforts me

soft drizzles rinsing out the hardships

renewing the land

beads of water dripping off of the greenery

picturesque

The rain is a strange thing

it saves us,

yet kills us

drowning and hydration and thirst

too much of something

too little of something

just enough is where you want to be in this situation

in most situations, really

The rain comes and goes

in swaths of red and orange and yellow and green and blue

the weather map has all sorts of labels for rain

blue bumps going this way

red triangles the other way

or was it purple triangles?

The rain is important

it nourishes and destroys

it flourishes and withers

it is necessary for life to continue living

to continue giving

to continue the cycle.

The albatross watched from high above

at the calico cat slinking across the forest floor, a view of the situation from the ground among the trees and undergrowth

  • Get up

I'm watching you lie there, dejected, miserable at your idea of a failure. But it's not a failure if you got impressively high up on the leaderboard, if you got so close to winning but didn't.

  • Promise

I stopped here. I ceased my walking and stood here, for as long as I needed to be until they came. I wait for them. They haven't come yet.
