Rainy soap operas

It starts with the smell

faint tints of gasoline

soggy leaves and damp surfaces

the air moist and wet as the sky prepares its dramatic soap opera.

The opening scene begins

a drop here and there

was it imagined, or real?

Then the first act is present

rain dancing down from the sky's backstage

millions of individual actors waiting behind the clouds for their time.

A little while later

after the character introduction has ended and the flashback has completed its turn

the intermission;

the calm period of false optimism of a clear sky.

The intermission ends as quickly as it has begun;

The rain resumes

this time portraying that of a betrayal

despair and regret and hoping for the impossible

the sky wails down upon us,

its soggy victims.

The play continues

the drama intensifies

the soapiness of the opera appearing on the corners of the road

gross bubbly foam of the exhausted actors

awaiting their arrival into the sewers.

The rain fell hard

each droplet wishing to be the best of the best

the most noticeable

the best character

the one with the biggest paycheck in the end.

Finally

the couple are back together

the evil has been washed away

the rain comes to an end

monsoon to sprinkle

an ending with an unusual twist

yet still awfully predictable.

The final drop falls

the applause dissipates into wind

blowing away the stormy sky

this soap opera has ended;

the sky shall continue to think of others.

  • Get up

    I'm watching you lie there, dejected, miserable at your idea of a failure. But it's not a failure if you got impressively high up on the leaderboard, if you got so close to winning but didn't.

  • Promise

    I stopped here. I ceased my walking and stood here, for as long as I needed to be until they came. I wait for them. They haven't come yet.
