Rick

Every day he woke up to his alarm at 7 made some breakfast took a shower and got dressed. Every day he’d get to work 10 minutes early at 8:50 and brew coffee to get himself prepared for the day. Every day he’d sit down in the same office and desk as he had for 5 years and in the same building as he had for 49 years. Every day he’d check over papers, make calculations receive reports from people, and manage some business. Every day on his lunch break he’d find something to eat and take a walk around an area. Every day he’d deal with multiple people to make sure they did their part and to teach them. Every day he’d drive home and settle down, unless he had some appointment, or get together with family. Every weekday he’d go to bed at around 10-11. Recently however fellow employees asked him when he planned on retiring and he always responded “I never really thought about it” Today however unlike every other day he had finally thought and made up his mind on retirement and he decided that he was going to retire at the beginning of the new year. He told his employer that he was going to retire and his employer said back “You deserve it” Over his years at the company Rick had mentored many of the newer employees and had contributed more to the company than even the founders themselves. Rick had become a loved and respected member of the company and had worked at the company since the first few years of the company’s start. On the day of his retirement, Rick entered the building and was greeted by almost everyone and they wished him well on his journey of retirement. They threw a party for him and they gave him gifts for his mentorship to them and for them saying their goodbyes. He found his employer, his old friend, the founder of the company, standing at the back of the crowd, and his friend said “It's been nice knowing you Rick and may all your retirement be bright” Rick finished his last day at the company and when he left the building for the last time he stood out by his car and stared back at the building that he had spent so much of his life in.
