Summer Camping

It was the time of year

when it was summer

but it wasn't miserably hot

wasn't disgustingly humid

it was the perfect in-between

the Goldilocks zone of summer.

It was a double camping trip

my family

and my friend's family.

Eight of us overall

we got to the campground in separate cars

my family got there first

we set up

we helped my friend's family set up

we did almost everything together

and I remember that it had rained that night

the water dripping off of the leaves of the sprawling branches

trees looming over our tents

I didn't sleep the best

but in the morning

my friend was watching me through the tent screen

of course.

For breakfast

we had cinnamon rolls

courtesy of my friend

they were delicious.

I chopped wood with my dad's axe

all the while wearing my bright pink raincoat

glancing behind me to make sure that no one was getting hit by the flying projectiles of wood shards

the whole experience cried summer,

summer,

summer.

    Revival

    It's a band piece

    weird, I know

    it's from last year

and we only played it in concert once

but it means a lot to me

it reminds me of a lot.

    Me

    How

    do others see me?

Do they see a girl in gray cargo pants and light blue thermal quarter zip?

Do they see a friend who loves them despite her crankiness?

Do they see a quiet awkward girl who prefers books to people?
