What I want

My favorite season has begun

stark white against the grayish brown of stick season

filling in the gaps between colorful fall and crisp winter

well, fall and winter are both crisp

except that fall is the crispness of a really good apple

whereas winter is the crispness of a white untouched landscape.

Cozy houses become even cozier

I get my fuzzy sweaters out

(they were already out, but whatever)

I stare at the snow illuminated by the lamplight

I try to enforce family game nights more than usual

I plan my birthday

despite it coming in four and a half months

five months?

Whatever

it's in mud season

that's what I'm trying to say.

I write down lists of what I want for Hannukah

I plan vacations to places with 6 feet of snow

I go all out

snow snow snow

if there's no snow here, then we go here

skiing? I'm not a fan, but at least there's snow!

Shaking the snow off of the naked trees

digging the oregano out from underneath the snow covering it in our front garden

snow snow snow

there must be snow

my dreams have come through

snow forts higher than me

scrambling up the sides

sliding down

hopefully not injuring myself

this is what I want this year;

snow snow snow

left and right and up and down

maybe not inside

but definitely outside

snow days, snow cones, snow blowers

I want all of the snow I can get

before it's all gone.

  • Yay snow!!!

    SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW

    ecstatic

    excited

    ready for winter

    eating it from the sky

feeling your socks get soggy and wet and cold as you reach out your chilly arms

    it's snow

    I'm ready for it

  • Judgement

    The fear

    well, more like terror

    and self-consciousness

    and discomfort

that comes with thinking that someone is looking at you

    their eyes on you

    it's truly horrible

  • The rain

    The rain scares me

    intimidates me

    loud and imposing and looming

    often arriving with thunder

    lightning

    sometimes power outages

    The rain comforts me

soft drizzles rinsing out the hardships
