Word Coat

In a world full of precious jewels,
Signed papers,
Gold-stamped certificates,
Medals to hang—

I find
The greatest accolade
To be my own words—
A pen’s ink on paper—
My Word Coat—

Like black dots on a staff
They are nothing 'till
They are played,
But when they are,
The music is tangible,
Beyond compare.

While gold glitters in the sun
Words glitter when—
In a sea of words
They sing.

Others prefer the
coat of silence.
And brutality
Is the fitter coat
For some.

But I find the
Warmest coat
To be the
Coat of Words.

I wear it to preserve my past
And to prepare for future’s blizzard.
I wear it on humid summer nights
And during foggy dawns.

I wear it—
For in extremity
No coat could
Be more important
Than the Word Coat.

Yet never,
Through harsh droughts,
And scorching heat waves
Have I had to take the Word Coat off.

  • Apathy

    Apathy, never hatred
I, myself was born with apathy
Deaf to the conflict that surrounded me
Although it had eaten at everything I saw.

But as I touched the hands and hearts of my family
    I had forgotten apathy
  • The Dreamer's Wheel

Humanity has cried for it to stop
Yet no spear or sword could halt the mop
That clears away color and good faith
But does not care to dismantle hate

Time is not a perfect circle
But rather a square or line at best
