Curious as to where my results would fall, I downloaded the app called Checky on my phone a few days ago and left it running to gather data all day Tuesday. I was surprised to see the final number for phone checks on Tuesday was 48, just slightly above the “average” number. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect going in, but I figured my number might have been lower than the average, instead of higher. Needless to say, I was more than surprised to see a number higher than the benchmark 46. I am not active on mainstream social media, sticking to mainly just surfing the internet and checking email. Lately, I have not been texting as much, either. However, I see that these results may have very well been skewed a little because a friend and I were communicating for a school project, which led me to check my phone more often in the afternoon.
All in all, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if anything happened to my phone solely because I do not use it as much as I could or once did. I’m not as plugged in as other people I know with social media, texting and talking, so I don’t feel this burning need to be with my phone every second. However, there’s no denying it would feel a little weird, at least for a little while. I love having a tool at my hands to look up random information that comes to mind at any time. I would miss that, though I'm sure I would get used to it over time. To not have a phone or method of communication could be problematic in emergencies, but assuming nothing abnormal happens in my life, I doubt the absence of a phone would affect me too much overall.
