Unfamiliar

Hey Geoff, when I uploaded this it cut off the top/bottom part of the image. How do we fix that? Are you able to or do I just need to reupload?

Welcome to my new drawing style. I call it "Who even cares". I haven't posted anything in a really long time. Honestly, I haven't felt motivation to do literally anything, which, sadly, includes writing. I was going to add a really moody poem or something but? Eh? Honestly haven't even wanted to draw in a while, so this came kind of out of left field.

Things have been somewhat hell over here for me for a little while. Basically... here is a self-portrait.

I'm sorry to hear this is a "self portrait"...even though it is very well done. I hope you're mood lifts. :)
But anyway, I love the colors you chose...and the eyes are great. They emit tiredness, or being weary of the world. It's messy and perfect.

The bright, bright blue of the background grabs my attention right away and then bounces my eye to the purple-hues of the face. You have captured and included so much life (as in believability) and emotion in the face. I like the hair peaking down from the top, although it would be awesome to see the whole image.

I am with EmilyAnne, it saddens me to read that you've been so unmotivated and that things have been, well, as you say, hell. However, I think you have created a really unique image and that you are a talented artist. (I just noticed, after reading your piece about being an artist rather than a scientist, it strikes me as a little humorous that here I am calling you an artist for an entirely different reason.) I am impressed by your use of color and brush/pen/finger stroke. As I said above, the colors are well chosen and communicate so much in addition to the (you, I'm not sure what else to call it) itself. I second EmilyAnne's comment starting at "but anyway, I love…." and continuing until the end "It's messy and perfect" Yes. It. Is!

I'm glad you liked my color choices. I'm also happy to see that you liked my other pieces. Thank you!

I am so sorry that you are going through such a rough time and I hope that things will get better. The always say, "It's worse before it gets better." and trust me. I really do believe things will get better for you :)
Anyways, despite this being a self-portrait I am still very impressed by the mood this drawing brings and how good it looks. I like the contrast between the background and the face. I second and completely agree with what others have said. Did you do this with drawing digitally? I always like seeing your drawings and this is no exception. Thanks for sharing, even during this hard time for you.

Hi Ava, the image is astonishing. About the cutting off issue - we have a standard size for images and that can be a problem for horizontal. If you want the entire image to show you could adjust the canvas size in Photoshop and re-upload. Problem is this would give you some space on either side of the image. A very long story short: If you prefer it to fill the space, you can leave it as is (which I think works very well) or you can resize and resubmit.
