Fire

Wisps of smoke flick through the sky

a quickly fading whisper of what was

of what used to be

but not anymore.

Faintly glowing embers

tokens of the past

they fade away too soon

their bright reddish-orange fading to a dull red, then black.

Charcoal

an opportunity missed

but a second chance to retry

a new beginning

a restart.

Flickering

crackling

glowing

flames that spark and shoot for the sky

their tips trailing with smoke

ash spinning in the air

free of the confines of gravity.

Fire

brings warmth

but when contrasted to other things

makes the rest of the world cold

dark

quiet.
