Last summer

I tried to avoid school

but also

tried to get myself ready

for the big class

for the hard homework

the stuff that never ended up

being a problem.

Last summer

I can’t think about before or now, but after, 

after all the moaning and groaning, 

after all the cleaning, weeding, and mowing, 

after we cook, grill, and bake, 

On a rocky cliff 

where the grass sways in the wind 

and the sky never seems to end, 

there lies a silent house

So many skies lived upon the ocean

Stars sparkled above and beneath

Fish and birds glide alike

Foam and clouds, fluffy and white

Life thrived below with colors

sweat rolling down my back,

ice cold once it meets frozen peas,

pressed on my lower back,

water ring on the wooden table,

seltzer chilly and fresh,

computer complaining about the heat,
