Theology

Religion is girlhood

God is a teenage girl screaming the names of the people she used to love at the sky

Worship is dancing and celebrating while still being upset

Faith is tying yourself into knots over the people who love and hate you

Spirituality is complimenting and comforting girls you have never seen before in lunch lines and bathrooms

Prayer is silently eating an overpriced poke bowl at the overlook parking lot with your best friend who seems to be the only person who will actually weather the storm

Gospel is messy bed sheets stained with makeup and glitter from the girls we used to be

Creeds are bagels, string lights, butterfly clips, and Barbie movie quotes

Piety is folding yourself into the girl you would want to date and the women you would want to marry

Observance is saying the lyric "they all say that it gets better, but what if I don't?" over and over again to yourself in the mirror

Invocation is feeling like your emotions are painted on the walls when truly no one realizes you even have emotions because you are the cool girl that goes with everything

Orthodox is your grandma and aunties feeding you toast with jam while telling you that you are the most beautiful girl in the world

Religion is girlhood

  • At The End

At the end of the day it’s the one who knows which gas station beverage you want
At the end of the day it’s the one who got you through your hardest classes, even when they weren’t taking it

  • My Childhood Home

My childhood home is filled with plants,

    plants that we never water

    but are somehow still alive.

Its island is littered with junk mail,

    different types of olive oil,

    stray flakes of salt,

  • Mirror, Mirror

    When you are a teenager,
    Every mirror is a kaleidoscope.
It is rare that you will see just one image of yourself,
But many fragmented pieces staring back at you.
We never know who we are, because what we see isn’t true.
