I can't tell if this is a distorted photograph or a painting, and that's genuinely so cool!

I was about to say that this poem fully embodies the phrase, "Take time to smell the roses," but I realized you spoke those words already: "Smell the flowers that bloom in the spring." This was the reminder I needed today to slow my brain down for a minute and observe and appreciate the world around me!

The ship, and being afloat at sea, is such a fitting metaphor for growing up. So much of what you touched on -- the loneliness of sailing alone, the feeling that the wind can pull you in any direction, the sands of a homeland that is your past -- was spoken of with such affecting language, and really resonated with me.

I only sometimes look at the photography and visual art aspect of YWP, but this inspired me to go through it more. The description made it personal, and I love how you collaged it! Amazing!!

this is so nostalgic and bittersweet, thank you for sharing it! i love the last part, where you sign your name; it adds a nice diaristic element. :)

Gone But Not Forgotten 9 months ago

There's always something about a photograph of an empty chair (I once used a chair as a photography subject as well) that makes me feel a certain way. I guess I mean to say, it brings awareness of the absence of a person: Is this someone's favorite chair? Where are they now, why are they gone? What's its story as an object that cannot speak? There's an unexpected dimension to it for me that a table, for example, would not have.

I never would have thought of snowboarding in this way, but I can see it now (or hear it in my head, rather)! "My board is the conductor" and "Together we make // My song" are both great lines!
